National Park Service Easing Restrictions at Lake Powell

The National Park Service will be increasing access to Lake Powell.

The service announced Friday it is reopening access to the Antelope Point public boat ramp in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area beginning Wednesday at 8 a.m.

Antelope Point is located on the south side of Lake Powell near Page.

“We are working hard to reopen the Antelope Point Public Launch Ramp on Lake Powell as soon as possible,” National Park Service Superintendent William Shott said in the release.

“It remains closed until Wednesday, July 29, so we can install courtesy dock facilities and deploy staffing necessary for quagga mussel containment efforts. We thank our visitors and partners for their continued patience and support as we resume park operations.”

The recreation area has slowly begun using a phased reopening plan amid the coronavirus pandemic, the service said in a press release Friday.

The National Park Service has, however, suspended on-site public or educational programs until further notice and have closed park headquarters.
