Movies Out This Weekend

The following new movie releases are coming to theaters this Friday on July 22nd. Check with your local theaters for specific viewing times:

Star Trek Beyond (120 minutes, PG-13, Sci-Fi/Adventure)
This third installment of the new Star Trek film series features the returning crew members of the USS Enterprise encountering a new wave of unknown enemies that threaten the Federation. While the previous two installments were directed by J.J. Abrams, this movie has a new director: Justin Lin, popularly known for his Fast and Furious movies. Simon Pegg of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead fame also joins the writing team for this film, and Golden Globe-nominated Idris Elba joins the cast as the lizard-like villain.

Ice Age: Collision Course (94 minutes, PG, Animation/Comedy)
Another Ice Age installment is hitting the screen this summer weekend, with the popular returning characters Manny, Diego, Sid and Scrat once again teaming up to stop an impending meteor strike. Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Lequizamo, Queen Latifah and Simon Pegg all reprise their roles for this fifth Ice Age movie. Those who loved the previous additions to this series will certainly enjoy the latest from 20th Century Fox.


Lights Out (81 minutes, PG-13, horror)
David F. Sandberg makes his directorial debut with this supernatural horror film, in which a young woman named Rebecca struggles to defend her little brother Martin from a mysterious terrorizing figure that appears when the lights go out. The menacing woman bears a connection to their mother, and Rebecca must confront a horror stemming from childhood fears and stop it from testing the sanity of her brother as well.  The film stars Teresa Palmer in the lead role, with Maria Bello playing their mother, known for her parts in A History of Violence (2005) and Thank You For Smoking (2006).
