PHOENIX — A Phoenix man died in a fiery motorcycle crash Wednesday night after fleeing from police at high speed, officials said.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers spotted a motorcycle violating traffic laws and speeding near Seventh Street and Thunderbird Road around 7:25 p.m. Before officers could initiate a traffic stop, the rider accelerated away and was soon out of sight.
Police said the rider, identified as 30-year-old Obed Manriquez Jr., lost control while heading north on Canterbury Drive and crashed into another vehicle. The impact caused the motorcycle to erupt into flames. Manriquez was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
