A late-night fight between two motorcyclists turned deadly Friday after the confrontation escalated into a shooting and a subsequent crash near 7th Avenue and Interstate 17, Phoenix police said.
Officers were dispatched just before 11 p.m. for what was initially reported as a collision involving motorcycles. While en route, dispatchers learned the riders had gotten into a physical altercation that quickly led to gunfire.
According to investigators, the man who opened fire was then struck by a passing vehicle. Both he and the rider who was shot were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The man hit by the vehicle later died.
Detectives are still working to piece together what sparked the conflict and how the sequence of events unfolded. Police have not released additional details as the investigation continues.
