Mother and Boyfriend Arrested in Death of 2-Year-Old Yuma Boy

Police discovered child’s remains during response to suspicious incident

YUMA — A 20-year-old mother and her boyfriend were arrested Friday after police discovered the remains of her 2-year-old son, according to authorities.

Officers responded to a suspicious incident around 1:47 p.m. near the 8500 block of East 25th Street. Upon arrival, police found human remains believed to be those of the missing toddler.

The Yuma Police Department’s Investigation Unit took over the case. After further inquiry, the child’s mother, Angelina Vasquez, and her boyfriend, Miguel Garcia, were arrested.

Both face charges of first-degree premeditated murder and abandonment or concealment of dead body parts. The investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Yuma Police Department or to report anonymously through 78-Crime. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for tips that lead to an arrest.
