Milwaukee Brewers Begin Renovations to Phoenix Spring Training Facility

Back in November 2017, the city council of Phoenix approved renovations to Maryvale Baseball Park, the spring training facility to the Milwaukee Brewers. The upgraded stadium led to a deal to keep the Brewers in the stadium and the Cactus League through 2042, with options to renew. This makes them the second-longest Cactus League committed team and guarantees spring ball for years to come.

The renovations officially began with a ground-breaking ceremony this past Tuesday, March 20th. With the ground breaking was the promise of substantial progress to be made on the facilities by the time Spring Training begins in 2019 – giving them about 10 months to bring a lot of updates and improvements to the stadium. The representative to the owner’s is Internationals Facilities Group, and the Construction Manager is Mortenson.

The renovations include everything from new entryways to new agility fields for the players. The goal is to truly bring the fans enjoyment and experience up to a new level. They plan on knocking down the existing two separate Major and Minor League buildings, and constructing one all inclusive building, that will double the square footage of the area up to 82,000 square feet. This building will house the clubhouse, Major and Minor League training and healing facilities, as well as the locker rooms. The Concourse along first base will have a wider walkway for pedestrians, and updated vendors, along with bigger bathrooms.

There will be an entry plaza put in behind home plate, with ticketing booths and gates leading to the stadium. There will also be a new entrance in the lobby for the clubhouse, and the new retail space will have an entrance accessible outside of the ticketing booths to grant access for non-game times. The Major League clubhouse will have many updated features for the players, from batting tunnels and agility fields to psych facilities.

The parking situation is also being addressed. One of the lots is going to be updated, and two new lots are being put in. One of the new lots will be specifically for Major League player parking, and the other new lot will be located where the current Minor League building is. Updated irrigation, as well as new landscaping will be all along the field and stadium, and the signage will improve on to help with directions better as well as to look more pleasing. The scoreboard is to be torn down and replaced as well.
