Mesa Ranked Among Safest Cities in the US

Those living in Mesa, Arizona, may have received some confirmation about the sense of security that they feel at home. According to SafeWise.com, Mesa is ranked No. 8 in the United States on their list of the safest metropolitan cities in the country.

This ranking places Mesa in outstanding company. Other notable cities that were among the top ten in safest metropolitan areas were: New York City, New York; San Diego, California; Virginia Beach, Virginia; San Jose, California; Tampa, Florida; El Paso, Texas; and Santa Ana, California.

At No. 8, Mesa came in higher than both Los Angeles and Boston. But it was not the only Arizona city to make the list. Phoenix ranked at No. 20 and Tucson received an honorable mention for improving its crime rates compared to previous years. While Mesa was the only Arizona locale in the top 10, all of these rankings show the prestige of the state.

SafeWise.com determined its rankings based primarily on two factors. The pair of numbers used in the study were property crime per 1000 residents and aggregation of violent crime. Generally speaking, these two statistics speak to a resident’s sense of personal security. The data for these two statistics were taken from the FBI’s 2015 database.

SafeWise spoke on Mesa’s behalf in their rankings with some kind words speaking to how Mesa achieves its level of safety. They wrote that Mesa “keeps the heat on criminals by effective policing that utilizes community outreach and increased training and transparency for better accountability. Residents of this high-desert city enjoy both lower-than-average rates of crime and wide economic and racial diversity among neighborhoods.”

In the future, Mesa looks to continue these trends and build on them to further Arizona and their own status on the national stage.
