Mesa Man Sentenced to 19 Years for Killing Pregnant Girlfriend

Victim was expecting twins; three children were home during shooting

PHOENIX — A Mesa man has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for the 2021 shooting death of his girlfriend, who was pregnant with twins, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

Michael Owen Foster, 38, pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter in connection with the killing, which happened at the couple’s home in May 2021.

Authorities said Foster admitted to arguing with his girlfriend before shooting her. Officers responding to a domestic violence call found the victim dead in an upstairs bedroom. Foster was taken into custody outside the home.

Three young children were present at the residence at the time of the shooting.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said the case underscores the devastating impact of domestic violence: “A mother, her unborn twins and a family were destroyed by one violent, reckless act.”
