Authorities in Mesa Police Department have arrested a 45-year-old man accused of secretly recording individuals inside a home’s bathroom over the course of several years, in what investigators describe as a deeply invasive and disturbing case.
The suspect, identified as Andreas Lorenz, was taken into custody Sunday and faces a series of serious charges, including 12 counts of voyeurism and one count of sexual exploitation of a minor under the age of 14. According to police, the alleged recordings involved eight victims, four of whom were minors.
The investigation began on Feb. 9 when a resident reported discovering a hidden camera disguised as a Wi-Fi extender plugged into a bathroom outlet. The device’s placement allowed it to capture individuals without their knowledge or consent.
Detectives say Lorenz later admitted to installing the camera in 2021. He allegedly told investigators that his original intent was to record his wife, though authorities emphasized that multiple other individuals were ultimately captured over time.
A forensic analysis of the device confirmed the presence of numerous recordings spanning several years. Officials have not disclosed the identities of the victims but noted the lasting emotional impact such violations can have.
“This case represents a profound violation of trust and personal privacy,” said Detective Jose Aguirre in a statement released by police, adding that the situation has affected not only the victims but also their families.
Lorenz remains in custody as the investigation continues. Authorities have not indicated whether additional charges may be filed.
