CHANDLER, Ariz. — A man was arrested Friday evening after police discovered a woman dead inside a Chandler apartment following a report of a disturbance.
Around 5 p.m., Chandler police responded to the area of Arizona Avenue and Galveston Street after a caller reported hearing an argument and what sounded like a gunshot.
When officers arrived, they found the door to an apartment open and a woman lying unresponsive inside. She was pulled from the unit and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the suspect, an adult male, had locked himself in the bathroom and claimed to be armed. His mother informed officers of his presence and behavior, prompting the Chandler Police SWAT team to respond.
Officers used non-lethal tactics and deployed a K9 to detain the man. He was taken to a hospital for treatment related to low blood pressure.
Inside the apartment, police said they recovered a handgun and a spent shell casing. The woman’s death is being treated as a homicide.
No names have been released, and investigators say there is no ongoing threat to the public. The case remains under investigation.
