PHOENIX – A heated altercation at a Phoenix gas station early Saturday morning led to a deadly sequence of events, with one man fatally struck by a pickup truck after a shooting, according to authorities. The incident occurred near 35th Avenue and Union Hills Drive.
Phoenix police officers responded to the scene around 1:15 a.m. and found 35-year-old Kyle Dorman with severe injuries. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, Dorman was pronounced dead.
What Led to the Phoenix Gas Station Incident?
The investigation revealed that Dorman was part of a group gathered at the gas station when another group arrived in a pickup truck. A verbal argument broke out between the two groups after the second group left the building. As the argument escalated, someone in Dorman’s group fired shots at the pickup truck. No one was hit by the gunfire.
As the second group attempted to flee in their vehicle, Dorman allegedly brandished a gun and pointed it at the truck. The driver, in an attempt to escape, intentionally ran over Dorman, police said. Most of Dorman’s group fled the scene before officers arrived.
No Immediate Arrests Following the Collision
Police located and stopped the pickup truck with the help of an air unit, and its occupants were taken into custody. However, the driver was released after evidence supported his claim of acting in self-defense when he ran over Dorman.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities will determine whether charges will be filed against the driver in Dorman’s death.
