More than three years after Erin Weber vanished from Scottsdale, investigators have identified a suspect and secured a first-degree murder indictment, though Weber herself has never been found.
A Maricopa County grand jury recently indicted 41-year-old Joseph Ryan Vigil after Scottsdale police presented evidence developed during the lengthy investigation. Vigil’s bond was set at $1 million.
Weber was last seen at her Scottsdale apartment on Jan. 20, 2023. Police said detectives spent the years since then serving search warrants, working with forensic specialists, reviewing evidence and pursuing new leads before identifying Vigil as a suspect. Authorities have not publicly detailed the evidence supporting the murder charge or explained what they believe happened to Weber.
Scottsdale Police Chief Joe LeDuc said the department remained committed to the investigation throughout the case. Weber’s family said in a statement that she was deeply loved by relatives and friends and asked for privacy as they grieve. The indictment represents a major development in a case that had remained unresolved for years, but investigators still face a central question: locating Weber and determining what happened to her.
