A man was fatally shot by Phoenix police officers Saturday night after allegedly threatening a woman with a knife during a domestic dispute, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 8:05 p.m. at an apartment complex near 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Dispatchers told responding officers that a fight had broken out between a man and a woman and that the man was armed. When officers arrived, they found the suspect holding the woman on the ground with a knife to her throat, police said.
Officers gave the man several verbal commands to drop the weapon, but he refused to comply. At that point, police said, officers opened fire.
After the shooting, one officer pulled the woman to safety. Paramedics from the Phoenix Fire Department pronounced the man dead at the scene. No officers or other community members were injured.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Major Incident Division will lead the investigation into the shooting, which is standard procedure in such cases.
