A house fire in a north Phoenix neighborhood claimed the life of a man and left a firefighter injured on Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.
Crews with the Phoenix Fire Department responded around 1:30 p.m. to a home near 13849 N. 38th Street. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and visible flames coming from the residence.
After entering the home, firefighters discovered an unconscious man inside. Despite immediate efforts, the man—whose identity has not been released—was pronounced dead at the scene.
While battling the blaze, one firefighter sustained burn injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition has not been publicly disclosed.
Fire crews managed to contain the fire before it could spread to nearby homes. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
Officials have not released further details about the man who died or the circumstances leading up to the fire.
