A tragic accident in Mesa on Friday afternoon has left one man dead after being struck by a golf cart, according to the Mesa Police Department.
The collision occurred around 4 p.m. near the intersection of Greenfield Road and Southern Avenue. Witnesses told investigators that the golf cart had to be lifted off the victim before a bystander nurse began performing CPR.
Police later determined that the man had been riding in the golf cart with a woman but had exited the vehicle just before the crash occurred. Both individuals were transported to a nearby hospital, where the man was initially listed in critical condition before succumbing to his injuries. The woman’s condition has not been released.
Authorities said impairment is believed to have played a role in the incident, though further details have not been disclosed. The intersection was temporarily closed while police investigated but has since reopened.
The Mesa Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
