Man Dead, Woman Critically Injured in Shooting at Mesa Elderly Care Home

Police say the incident, involving a couple in their 90s, may have been a self-inflicted shooting at a residential care facility near Alma School and Guadalupe roads.

A tragic shooting at an elderly group home in Mesa left one person dead and another critically injured early Thursday morning, according to the Mesa Police Department.

Officers responded to the facility, located near Alma School and Guadalupe roads, after receiving reports that a man may have shot himself. When they arrived, police discovered an elderly married couple—both in their 90s—suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators believe his fatal injury was likely self-inflicted. The woman was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved, and the investigation remains ongoing.

No other residents or staff members at the group home were harmed, and police have not indicated any threat to the wider community.

This marks the latest in a series of domestic-related shootings in the Phoenix area, underscoring concerns about gun violence and mental health among older adults.
