Man Arrested at Buckeye Hotel in Shooting Death of Son

Buckeye Police Department announced on Monday that a 44-year-old man was arrested at a Buckeye hotel and charged with murder in the shooting death of his son.

Wayland McAfee was accused of fatally shooting his 20-year-old son, Tamar McAfee, on Thursday evening at about 7 p.m., according to authorities.

When officers responded to a 911 call, they located Wayland McAfee leaving a hotel room.


The suspect did not comply with police commands when officers attempted to detain him and a brief struggle ensued between the suspect and police.

McAfee was armed with a handgun. Police were able to disarm him and he made an attempt to grab an officer’s handgun while being handcuffed, according to police.

An officer deployed his taser and McAfee was taken into custody with the help of other officers.

When police entered the hotel room, Tamar McAfee was found on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds.

Tamar McAfee was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Wayland McAfee was booked into the Maricopa County Intake and Release facility on one count of second-degree murder, one count of aggravated assault on an officer, one count of aggravated assault with a control officer firearm and one count of possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.
