Man Arrested After Fatal Weekend Shooting in Peoria, Police Say

Investigators allege 46-year-old Henry Juarez-Garcia shot and killed 33-year-old James Durham before fleeing the scene Saturday night.

A 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred over the weekend in Peoria, authorities announced Monday.

According to the Peoria Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire near 95th and Peoria avenuesshortly before 8 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they found 33-year-old James Durham with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police they saw several people leave the area in a red sedan. Officers later located the vehicle and identified Henry Juarez-Garcia as the suspect.

Juarez-Garcia was arrested and booked on multiple felony charges, including first-degree murder, possession of dangerous drugs, and possession of a weapon as a prohibited possessor, police said.

Detectives are still investigating what led up to the shooting.
