Tempe police have arrested a man accused of killing his wife and her coworker during a shooting inside a Little Caesars restaurant near Rural and Guadalupe roads on Monday morning.
Officers in the area heard gunshots and arrived to find Benjaman Visser Jr., 27, holding a gun and two employees suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims — 21-year-old Mary Visser, the suspect’s wife, and 32-year-old Shaquille Simmons — were taken to a hospital, where they later died.
Both victims worked at the pizza shop, police said. Visser was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the Tempe City Jail.
The shooting was the first of two deadly incidents in Tempe on Monday. A separate shooting later that morning in the parking lot of Tempe Marketplace left another victim dead, and the suspect in that case remained at large as of Monday night.
Tempe police are continuing to investigate both incidents and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
