A strange scene unfolded Friday at Maricopa County Animal Care and Control’s West Shelter in Phoenix, where a man was arrested after falling through the ceiling while deputies were investigating possible vandalism.

The incident occurred at the shelter near 27th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road after staff discovered a shattered window and blood on door handles, prompting them to call authorities.

Deputies with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office were on site conducting their investigation when the suspect suddenly crashed through the ceiling. He was taken into custody and now faces felony charges, officials said.

The shelter was temporarily closed following the incident but has since resumed normal operations. No injuries to staff, animals, or deputies were reported.

Investigators have not yet released the suspect’s identity or details about how he ended up in the ceiling.
