Man and Child Killed in South Phoenix Parking Lot Shooting; Suspect Facing Murder Charges

Fight between two vehicles escalates into gunfire at Lowe’s near Baseline Road and 19th Avenue

A confrontation in a south Phoenix parking lot turned deadly Saturday when an argument between two groups escalated into gunfire, leaving a man and a child dead and injuring two others, including another child.

Phoenix police were called to the Lowe’s parking lot near Baseline Road and 19th Avenue around 2:45 p.m. Officers learned that individuals in two separate vehicles were preparing to leave when a physical fight broke out. After the altercation, both groups returned to their vehicles — and the suspect opened fire on an SUV carrying two adults in front and three children in the back seat.

Thirty-year-old Quincy Jay Polk was pronounced dead at the scene. Two of the children were also hit by gunfire. One child, initially hospitalized in extremely critical condition, later died from their injuries. A second child suffered non-life-threatening wounds, and a third was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Witnesses told police the woman in the SUV returned fire before being taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Tyrone Dee Chilly, was detained shortly after the shooting. Police said he was hospitalized overnight for unrelated health concerns before being released and booked into jail. He faces two counts of murder, as well as multiple aggravated assault and endangerment charges. Detectives say no additional suspects are outstanding.
