Lyft has not been as successful as Uber, its competitor company, but it has still contributed greatly to the local economy having had nearly a $40 million impact on Phoenix. 

A study conducted by Land Econ Group showed that passengers will save $18.6 million in travel time and value by using the service.  They will also save more than 493, 333 travel hours during the course of the year.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey claims that, “by passing forward-looking policies, Arizona is quickly and proudly becoming a state where technology has to catch up with legislation, not the other way around.  We couldn’t be happier with Lyft’s successful growth in Arizona and its positive impact on our state economy.  We can’t wait to see what they do next.”

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport have started to allow ride-sharing companies such as Lyft and Uber to pick up and drop off passengers.  This has contributed to the companies’ operations in the valley and boosted the impact they have had in Phoenix.

Lyft has opened an office in Phoenix and places to grow aggressively over the next year.  Phoenix has been one of the company’s fastest-growing markets though representatives of the company have declined disclosure of specific data. 

Lyft’s Phoenix general manager, Drena Kusair, has said that “Lyft has become a powerful driver of economic growth in the Phoenix area by creating flexible economic opportunities for drivers, improved transportation access for passengers, and encouraging local spending.”  She also expressed excitement that ride-sharing makes Phoenix safer – 93% of passengers are likely to avoid driving while intoxicated because services like Lyft exist.

A study found that 90% of Lyft drivers have given a ride to neighbors, 45% of passengers use their personal vehicles less, 42% of Lyft drives have had a lasting, positive community connection, and 32% of rides start in underserved area.

These numbers speak volumes to the benefits of having a service such as Lyft.
