Lōkahi Teams Fundraiser Carnival Returns to Mesa to Support Young Athletes Across The Valley

Four Days of Family Fun and Purpose at Dobson High School

Lōkahi Teams is gearing up to bring four days of rides, games, and community spirit to Dobson High School this spring with its Second Annual Fundraiser Carnival, set for April 10–13, 2025.

The event, now one of the largest high school-based carnivals in Arizona, aims to raise critical funds to support student-athletes across the state. Since its founding in 2021, Lōkahi Teams has provided more than $70,000 in assistance to over 500 students—ensuring kids from all walks of life can participate in sports, regardless of financial barriers.

More Than Cotton Candy: Supporting a Bigger Mission

Behind the flashing lights and cotton candy, the carnival supports a deeper mission: leveling the playing field for young athletes.

Real Impact on Local Student-Athletes

Westwood High School swimmer Lilly Merritt says her team was struggling to train with broken and outdated equipment—until Lōkahi Teams stepped in.

“There weren’t enough kickboards for all the athletes to do drills at the same time,” she recalls.

After receiving new swim gear, the team’s training improved dramatically, helping Westwood post its best swim season in years, with the highest number of state qualifying entries in recent memory.

“We are grateful for the support and look forward to using their generous donation again in our 2025 season,” Lilly said.

At Red Mountain High School, badminton player Payton Westra had a similar experience.

“We used to use the same birdies every day, and over time they’d break and fall apart,” she said.

Thanks to Lōkahi Teams, the squad now has fresh equipment, enabling consistent practice without compromise.

“Without them, many programs would be more concerned about rationing equipment than focusing on coaching, fun, and competition,” Westra said.

Carnival Highlights and Community Spirit

The carnival promises something for everyone—20+ full-size thrill rides, games, kiddie attractions, and a smorgasbord of local food trucks. But most importantly, all proceeds go directly to supporting underserved youth athletes.

“Grateful, encouraging, energized—that’s the spirit of Lōkahi Teams,” said Sara Altieri, Director of Technical and Creative Content for the organization. “By attending, you’re helping young people build confidence, character, and community through sports.”

The carnival will be held at Dobson High School, located at 1501 W. Guadalupe Road in Mesa. Bring the whole family and be part of an event that combines fun and impact in equal measure.
