Loretta Zumbro Elementary School to Open in August 2025, Serving West Valley Students from Preschool to 8th Grade

PHOENIX, AZ – The Liberty Elementary School District (LESD) is set to break ground this Friday on its newest school, Loretta Zumbro Elementary, located in Buckeye. Named after a dedicated district employee who spent 38 years serving the community, the school will open in phases, with the first expected to welcome students in August 2025.

“I am deeply honored to have this school named after me,” said Loretta Zumbro. “It has been a tremendous privilege to serve the students and families of Liberty Elementary School District for my entire career.”

Location and Design
The new 73,512-square-foot school will be situated near Lower Buckeye Road, between Perryville and Citrus roads. Upon completion, the school will have the capacity to accommodate up to 900 students, from preschool to eighth grade.

Two firms, CORE Construction and DLR Group, are collaborating with LESD to establish the project scope and budget. Michael Todd, President of the LESD Governing Board, praised the efforts of DLR Group in ensuring the project remains on budget while still delivering a “future-ready facility.”

Project Funding and Timeline
The Arizona Department of Administration School Facilities Division is providing funding to support the construction of Loretta Zumbro Elementary. LESD will regularly update the community on the school’s progress and release enrollment information next year.

This school will mark the eighth addition to the LESD, reflecting the district’s ongoing commitment to addressing the growing educational needs of the West Valley community.
