Laura Owens Indicted on Additional Felony Charges in False Pregnancy Case

The new indictment adds to existing charges involving another alleged victim in the ongoing high-profile case.

PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office announced that Laura Michelle Owens, 35, has been indicted on multiple new felony charges connected to a false claim of pregnancy involving a second victim.

Investigators said the alleged victim began dating Owens in 2021 but ended the relationship after a few dates. Owens then allegedly claimed to be pregnant by him and is accused of falsifying documents to support that claim.

A grand jury indicted Owens on seven felony counts, including:

  • One count of Perjury (Class 4 Felony)

  • One count of Fraudulent Schemes and Artifices (Class 2 Felony)

  • Two counts of Taking the Identity of Another (Class 4 Felony)

  • Two counts of Forgery (Class 4 Felony)

  • One count of Theft by Extortion–Accuse of Crime (Class 4 Felony)

These new charges come in addition to an earlier case involving victim Clayton Echard, a former reality TV personality. The trial in that case is scheduled for January 2026.

Owens remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
