Kind Hospitality Purchases Macayo’s Restaurant Brand

With over eight locations in the Valley, the Arizona restaurant chain Macayo’s will soon face a change in ownership.

Having opened the first Macayo’s in 1946, Woody and Victoria Johnson have sold the rights to the Macayo’s name and six of the eight remaining restaurants to Mesa-based Kind Hospitality.

The two remaining restaurants will remain under the ownership and operation by Woody’s three children, Sharisse, Gary and Stephen Johnson.

In 2018, Macayo’s closed its Casa Grande and Tucson locations. A Las Vegas location that was owned by another family member announced that it would close in March.

Kind Hospitality will be acquiring locations in Ahwatukee, Glendale, Goodyear, Mesa and Surprise.

The current plan is to renovate and update each location and have also been considering the possibility opening more restaurants. At this time, no timetable has been given regarding the additional locations.
