Kick Off the New Year with Guided Hikes at Arizona State Parks

First Day Hikes Offer Outdoor Adventure and Education Across the State

Looking for a way to start 2025 on a high note? Arizona State Parks and Trails is hosting its annual First Day Hikes on New Year’s Day, offering guided adventures at more than a dozen state parks. These hikes provide an opportunity to connect with nature while learning about Arizona’s plants, wildlife, geology, and history from knowledgeable rangers and guides.

Prepare for Your First Day Hike:

  • Stay hydrated: Even in winter, Arizona’s dry climate requires at least one liter of water per hour of hiking.
  • Wear proper footwear: Sturdy, close-toed shoes are recommended to navigate rocky terrain and protect against insects and snakes.
  • Dress in layers: Be ready for Arizona’s variable weather with appropriate clothing. Trekking poles can also help with joint support on downhill sections.
  • Bring the essentials: Don’t forget safety gear, sunblock, and a fully charged phone.

Some hikes require registration, and pet policies vary by park, so check ahead. All hikes are subject to weather conditions.

Start the year off with fresh air, exercise, and a deeper appreciation for Arizona’s natural beauty!
