PHOENIX, AZ – Republican Kari Lake released a video message Wednesday evening thanking her supporters and celebrating Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential race, but she stopped short of conceding her U.S. Senate loss to Democrat Ruben Gallego.
The Associated Press called the race in Gallego’s favor on Monday, but Lake, a staunch Trump ally, has not acknowledged the result. Instead, she used the 2½-minute video to reflect on her political journey, citing a Bible verse and applauding Republican successes in the 2024 elections.
“Arizona is a special place, and I’m thankful that President Trump and a Republican majority in both chambers of Congress will be in office to help protect us,” Lake said. “As I watch his cabinet forming, I take great comfort in knowing that America will be made great again.”
Lake, who rose to prominence as part of Trump’s MAGA movement, has now faced two high-profile defeats in statewide elections. She previously lost the 2022 Arizona governor’s race to Katie Hobbs and waged a prolonged, unsuccessful legal battle to overturn the results.
Lake Avoids Concession, Focuses on Broader GOP Wins
Unlike conventional post-election addresses, Lake’s video made no mention of her opponent, Ruben Gallego, nor did it include any hint of conceding. Instead, she focused on her gratitude for supporters and her belief in the GOP’s future under Trump’s leadership.
Lake entered politics after a career as a local TV news anchor, and in the video, she reflected on the transition while quoting scripture to inspire her audience.
“Arizona is my home, and my fight for our values will never stop,” Lake said. “Together, we will continue to stand strong.”
