June 25-28 – Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory

Stretches of I-17 and Loop 101 and the I-10 tunnel are scheduled to be closed for maintenance and improvement projects in the Phoenix-area this weekend (June 25-28), according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Drivers should allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes while the following weekend freeway restrictions are in place:

Southbound I-17 closed between Thunderbird Road and Peoria Avenue from 4:30 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday (June 27) for maintenance and repair. Southbound I-17 on-ramps at Greenway, Thunderbird and Cactus roads also closed. Allow extra travel time and expect heavy traffic. DETOUR: Drivers can use 19th or 35th avenues to the Peoria Avenue on-ramp as an alternate route to enter southbound I-17.

Northbound I-17 closed between Peoria Avenue and Cactus Road from 4:30 a.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday (June 28) for maintenance and repair work. Northbound I-17 on-ramps at Peoria and Dunlap avenues also closed. Allow extra travel time and expect heavy traffic. DETOUR: Drivers can use 19th or 35th avenues to the Cactus Road on-ramp as an alternate route to enter northbound I-17.


Eastbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) closed between 56th Street and Scottsdale Road in north Phoenix from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday(June 28) for widening project. Northbound SR 51 ramp to eastbound Loop 101 closed. Eastbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Tatum Boulevard closed. Allow extra travel time and expect heavy traffic. DETOUR: Alternate routes include traveling south on 56th Street to eastbound Bell Road and northbound Scottsdale Road to reach Loop 101 beyond closure. Drivers also can consider using eastbound Deer Valley Road/Drive to southbound Scottsdale Road to reach Loop 101.

Eastbound Interstate 10 closed between the I-17 “Stack” interchange and SR 51/Loop 202 interchange from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday(June 26) for I-10 tunnel cleaning and maintenance. Both I-17 ramps to eastbound I-10 at the Stack closed. Eastbound on-ramps from 19th Avenue to Seventh Street closed. 3rd Street HOV on-ramp also closed. DETOUR: Eastbound I-10 traffic can detour to southbound I-17 at the Stack and reconnect with I-10 at the I-17 “Split” interchange near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Drivers can also consider alternate routes, including eastbound Jefferson Street or McDowell Road to southbound SR 51 to access eastbound I-10. Note: The southbound SR 51 and westbound Loop 202 ramps to eastbound I-10 will remain open.

Westbound I-10 closed between the I-17 “Split” interchange near Sky Harbor Airport and Seventh Avenue from 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday (June 27) for I-10 tunnel cleaning and maintenance. Southbound SR 51 ramp to westbound I-10 closed. Westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) ramp to westbound I-10 will remain open but traffic must exit I-10 at Seventh Street (traffic can detour on westbound McDowell Rd and reconnect with I-10 via southbound Seventh Avenue). The westbound Sky Harbor Boulevard ramp to westbound I-10 will be open but traffic can only access northbound SR 51 or eastbound Loop 202. The westbound I-10 on-ramp at Washington Street also restricted (access also limited to only northbound SR 51 or eastbound Loop 202). The southbound I-17 ramp to westbound I-10 (also is ramp to Sky Harbor Airport) at the Split interchange also closed. DETOUR: Westbound I-10 traffic approaching the closure near the airport will detour to northbound I-17 and can reconnect with I-10 at the Stack interchange.

Eastbound US 60 on-ramp at Priest Drive in Tempe closed from 2 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (June 26) and 4 a.m to 5 p.m. Sunday (June 27) for pre-construction survey work. Eastbound US 60 right lane and auxiliary lane between Priest and Hardy drives closed. DETOUR: Traffic can use either Southern Avenue or Baseline Road east to Mill Avenue to enter eastbound US 60. Eastbound US 60 drivers should be prepared to merge and use caution through work zone. Note: Drivers on eastbound US 60 can still exit at Mill Avenue.

Westbound I-10 narrowed to three lanes (HOV and left lane closed) between Broadway Road exit and 48th Street in Tempe from 3 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (June 26) and 3:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday (June 27) for pre-construction survey work. Allow extra travel time and expect heavy traffic. DETOUR: Merge safely and use caution while driving through work zone.

Southbound SR 143 narrowed to one lane (left two lanes closed) south of University Drive in Tempe from 2 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (June 26) for pre-construction survey work. Traffic will still have access to east- and westbound I-10 exits. Allow extra travel time and expect heavy traffic. DETOUR: Merge safely and use caution while driving through work zone.
