Authorities in Phoenix are investigating after an adult was discovered in a canal in a central part of the city Friday evening.
Emergency crews were called to the area near Third Avenue and Hazelwood Street just before 6 p.m. following reports of a person in the water. When firefighters arrived, they located an adult who was unresponsive and could not be saved.
Phoenix police detectives later took over the scene, overseeing the removal of the body and beginning an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials have not yet identified the individual. The cause of death remains unknown and will be determined following a medical examination.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to gather more details about what happened.
