Buckeye police are investigating a deadly home invasion that ended when a homeowner fatally shot an intruder late Sunday night.
Officers responded around 9 p.m. to a neighborhood near Watson and Yuma roads after multiple reports of gunfire. When they arrived at a home on Desert Bloom Street, they found a man inside suffering from several gunshot wounds. Despite emergency crews’ efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three residents — a mother and her two adult children — were also inside the home but were unharmed, according to the Buckeye Police Department. Investigators say the man, believed to be in his late 20s, did not know the family.
Before the shooting, the family reported hearing loud banging on the door. When one of the residents answered, the man allegedly tried to force his way inside. A male resident armed himself, and as the intruder broke through the security door and entered the house, the homeowner fired several shots.
Police continue to investigate the incident, though early evidence suggests the shooting occurred in response to a forced entry. Further updates will be provided as the investigation develops through the Buckeye Police Department website.
