After a rough start, Jeff and Leah Huss, are set to open the second Huss Brewing Co. tap room on April 14th in Uptown Plaza located at Central Avenue and Camel Back Road.
The new taproom will feature all of Huss’ Scottsdale Blonde, Papago Orange Blossom, Koffee Kolsch and even some new brews that were made specifically for the new location.
The new Uptown Phoenix Taproom was set to open in December; however, nearby residents protested the new location, because it would be located near the Washington Square Historic District neighborhood backyards.
The Phoenix City Council originally denied the Huss’ request for a liquor license by providing a no liquor license recommendation to the state liquor board in December, but this decision was reversed after Jeff and Leah met with local neighborhood representatives.
The new location will have a pet-friendly patio and will serve small plates such as, warm goat cheese, prosciutto dip and croquet monsieur toast. However, customers are permitted to have food ordered from other restaurants delivered to the tap room.
Together Jeff and Leah Huss bring over 25 years of experience in the Craft Beer Industry. Jeff attended the Siebel Institute of Brewing and then proceeded to work as the head brewer at BJ’s Brewery in Chandler, Arizona for 7 years. While Leah, Jeff’s wife and business partner, graduated from the Scottsdale Culinary Institute and has been a managing partner at Papago Brewing Co. since 2001.
The Huss’ love and compassion for American Craft Beer has resulted in the success of the Tempe Taproom and its popular Downward Drafts yoga class. They hope to continue that success with the grand opening of the family-style Uptown Phoenix Taproom located at the Uptown Plaza.
