Husband and Wife Walk Away Unharmed After Plane Crash Near Sedona

Quick action and aircraft parachute system credited for saving couple in northern Arizona incident.

A husband and wife escaped injury after their small plane crashed near Cathedral Rock in Sedona on Monday morning, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO).

Deputies responded around 8:30 a.m. after reports of a crash near the popular red rock landmark. When they arrived, they found the couple had safely exited the aircraft and were uninjured.

Authorities said the pair deployed the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS) — a built-in parachute designed to bring the entire plane down safely during emergencies. The system allowed the aircraft to land on the mountainside, minimizing impact.

The crash site is located in one of northern Arizona’s most scenic and heavily visited areas, but no hikers or bystanders were injured.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the cause of the crash.
