Human Smuggling Operation Leads To 1 Death, 3 Arrested in El Mirage

After a home tied to a human smuggling operation in El Mirage was targeted on Saturday, three people have been arrested and a man is dead.

Authorities say that the victim, who has not been identified, arrived at the El Mirage residence around 5 p.m. near Thunderbird and El Mirage roads. He was accompanied  with three other individuals carrying weapons.

After he was shot and killed, the three other individuals fled from the residence.


Police report that three occupants of the home, including a 16-year-old, were arrested. During the investigation, authorities found four uninjured victims that had been smuggled into the United States from Mexico, Guatemala and Ecuador all being held against their will.

The 16 year old has been charged with second-degree murder and assault. All three arrested face numerous charges, including unlawful imprisonment, participation in human smuggling and illegal control of an enterprise.

An investigation remains open and ongoing into the relationship between the occupants of the residence and the victims.
