Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs is calling a recent Supreme Court decision striking down tariffs imposed during the administration of former President Donald Trump a significant win for the state’s economy.
In a statement released Thursday, Hobbs said the high court’s ruling removes what she described as a major financial burden on small businesses and working families. The decision from the U.S. Supreme Court ends a set of trade levies that critics argued functioned as a sweeping tax increase affecting everything from consumer goods to construction materials.
Hobbs said she has spent months hearing from Arizona entrepreneurs, agricultural producers and supply chain operators who reported increased operational costs and delayed investments as a result of the tariffs. According to the governor, those economic pressures translated into slowed job growth and added strain for households already facing rising prices.
While acknowledging that reversing the tariffs will not immediately undo broader inflationary trends, Hobbs said her administration remains focused on reducing costs and expanding access to quality jobs. She also reiterated her commitment to pushing back against federal policies she believes disproportionately impact Arizona consumers.
The decision is expected to reverberate across industries reliant on imported goods, though the long-term economic impact will likely unfold gradually in the months ahead.
