Hiker Airlifted from Camelback Mountain After Suffering Medical Emergency

Crews Perform Life-Saving Efforts Before Flying Unconscious Man to the Hospital

PHOENIX — A hiker was airlifted off Camelback Mountain Monday morning after suffering a serious medical emergency near the summit, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Rescue teams from Phoenix and Tempe responded to the Echo Canyon Trailhead around 9:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a hiker in distress.

When crews reached the man, he was unconscious and not breathing. Capt. Todd Keller said firefighters immediately began advanced resuscitation efforts.

The hiker was in extremely critical condition when a Phoenix Police Department helicopter flew him off the mountain and transported him to a nearby hospital.

No further information was released. The incident remains under investigation.
