HGTV Flip or Flop stars announce separation

Celebrity real estate stars Tarek and Christina El Moussa from HGTV’s Flip or Flop have announced their separation with intent to divorce.

The El Moussas shared the news in a statement to People Magazine Monday, Dec. 12.

The pair went to counseling to “sort out” their relationship but said they decided to split when they evaluated “the future of our marriage.”

Though they have called it quits, the couple said in the statement they are devoted to their children and their work.

“During the process, we are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be,” they said in the statement. “We will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together.”

The duo married in 2009 and have two children together, 6-year-old daughter Taylor and 1-year-old son Brayden. Flip or Flop aired on HGTV in 2013.

Also in the statement, the El Moussas acknowledged a dispute that called police to their California home in May.

“Like many couples, we have had challenges in our marriage,” they said in the statement. “We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution. There was no violence and no charges were filed.”

Police responded to the El Moussa’s home after receiving a “call of a possibly suicidal male with a gun,” TMZ reported.

Tarek allegedly fled the Orange County residence with a weapon. He only disarmed himself when a helicopter found him and police commanded him to drop the firearm.

TMZ reported he allegedly told police he had no intentions of harming himself, but wanted to “blow off some steam.”
