Healthcare Workers Need Masks. Here’s How You Can Help

Increasingly desperate pleas from health care workers and public authorities for donations of face masks and other protective gear are an unsettling time for essential health officials who are who are working to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Local health officials are pleading with the public that if you have any masks or safety goggles at home, please consider donating them to your local hospital. All nonessential medical offices and other businesses are asked to donate their protective gear to hospitals. A plea is also going out to dentist offices, painters, contractors and plastic surgeons, to give “all you have” in the way of masks, gloves or thermometers to local hospitals.

As supplies of critical protective gear dwindle, nurses and doctors who are on the front line of combatting this virus are being forced to wipe down and reuse supplies they’d normally toss after one use. Medical professionals are begging for access to additional personal protective equipment.

Currently companies nationwide are working to boost the production and release of critical medical supplies and personal protective equipment, but for now, that’s not enough. So charities, corporations and ordinary Americans are being asked to step up, donate everything from N95 masks to hospital gowns, disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer.
