Gunfire Erupts During DEA Operation in West Phoenix; Two Suspects Arrested

Federal agents were targeted while conducting a drug investigation near 67th Avenue and Van Buren Street. No injuries were reported, and authorities say the case remains under review.

Federal narcotics agents came under gunfire Tuesday morning while carrying out an investigation in west Phoenix, authorities confirmed.

According to a spokesperson for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, agents were working near 67th Avenue and Van Buren Street as part of an ongoing drug probe when one of two suspects allegedly began shooting at them. The agents were not struck during the exchange.

Both individuals under investigation were quickly detained at the scene. Law enforcement officials said drugs and a firearm were recovered as part of the arrest.

Television footage from the area showed a heavy police presence surrounding a shopping center that includes a Family Dollar store. Crime scene tape cordoned off part of the parking lot, and a nearby vehicle appeared to be riddled with bullet holes, underscoring the intensity of the encounter.

Authorities have not released additional details about the suspects or the scope of the investigation, which remains active.
