Gunfire and Police Chase: Buckeye Man Arrested After Targeting Motorcyclist and Fleeing Authorities

Suspect returned to the scene shouting threats before leading officers on a high-speed pursuit; no injuries reported

PHOENIX — A 42-year-old man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly firing multiple shots at a motorcyclist during a group ride and then fleeing from police in a chaotic series of events that spanned two cities, according to the Buckeye Police Department.

The incident unfolded around 12:30 a.m. Saturday near Jackrabbit Trail and Indian School Road in Buckeye. A group of motorcyclists flagged down a nearby police officer, reporting that a man—later identified as John Ramos—had been driving recklessly and endangering others in the group.

When confronted and asked to leave the ride, Ramos allegedly responded by pulling out a firearm and firing several rounds at one of the riders. He then fled the scene on foot, disappearing into a nearby wash. Miraculously, no one was injured in the shooting.

Police quickly secured the area and launched an extensive search for the suspect. With the help of drones, K-9 units, and tactical teams, officers combed the surrounding terrain. But just as the situation began to settle, Ramos returned to the scene—this time behind the wheel of an SUV—and began shouting threats at the victim and others present.

Officers attempted to stop him, but Ramos took off at high speed, heading eastbound on Interstate 10. A short time later, detectives identified his residence near 95th Avenue and Camelback Road in Glendale.

Surveillance confirmed Ramos’ presence, and officers arrested him without incident as he exited his apartment.

Ramos is now facing a list of serious charges, including attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and fleeing law enforcement. Buckeye police emphasized that although no one was physically harmed, the reckless behavior and potential for tragedy underscore the dangers of escalating confrontations—especially those involving firearms.

“This could have ended very differently,” a Buckeye PD spokesperson said. “We’re grateful no lives were lost and that officers were able to safely apprehend the suspect.”

Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the incident and whether additional charges will be filed. Ramos remains in custody pending court proceedings.
