Phoenix, AZ – Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell has announced that a Grand Jury has indicted Saul Bal (DOB: 08/1983) on five felony charges, including First Degree Murder, following the death of Phoenix Police Officer Zane Coolidge. The charges include:
- First Degree Murder, a Class One Dangerous Felony
- Attempt to Commit First Degree Murder, a Class Two Dangerous Felony
- Aggravated Assault, a Class Two Dangerous Felony
- Burglary in the First Degree, a Class Three Felony
- Misconduct Involving Weapons, a Class Four Dangerous Felony
On September 3rd, Phoenix Police officers responded to a report of a vehicle break-in. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers confronted the defendant, who fled and fired shots at them. Officer Zane Coolidge tragically lost his life in the line of duty as a result of the shooting.
“The men and women in blue are heroes. It is unthinkable that someone would take one of their lives. The person who took Officer Coolidge’s life will be held accountable,” said Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell.
A trial date has not yet been set.
