Grand Canyon National Park’s North Rim to Begin Day-Use Operations on October 16, 2024

No Overnight Accommodations or Camping Available; Visitors Urged to Be Self-Sufficient

Starting October 16, 2024, the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park will transition to day-use operations. The Grand Canyon Lodge will close, and no overnight accommodations or camping will be available for visitors. Those planning to explore the North Rim after this date should be prepared to bring their own food and water to be self-sufficient for the day.

Limited services will remain, including a self-serve gas station that accepts credit and debit cards, available until State Route 67 closes. Water will be available only at the North Rim Administration Building after October 31. The entrance gate on State Route 67 will close either at sunset on November 30, 2024, or after the first significant snowstorm, whichever comes first.

The North Rim Scenic Road to Cape Royal will be temporarily closed from sunset on October 13 through October 18 due to prescribed fire activities, while the road to Point Imperial will remain open. The North Rim Visitor Center, operated by the Grand Canyon Conservancy, will close at 5 p.m. on October 15. The Backcountry Information Center will close for the season on October 31, and the General Store, coffee shop, and gift shops will close at 11 a.m. on October 16.

Visitors traveling between now and November 30 should be prepared for winter driving conditions, as snow, ice, and rain are common. For current road conditions, contact Arizona Highway Information at 1-888-411-ROAD (7623).

Nearby lodging, food services, and fuel can be found 45 miles north of the North Rim at Jacob Lake, with additional options in Fredonia, Arizona, and Kanab, Utah. For more information on planning a trip to the North Rim, visit the park’s website at nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/north-rim.htm.
