GRAND CANYON, AZ — Grand Canyon National Park is seeking public input on a proposed fee increase for non-commercial river trips, set to take effect on March 1, 2025.
Under the proposal, the $25 lottery application fee would remain unchanged, but the flat per-person fee would increase from $90 to $310 for trips from Lees Ferry to Diamond Creek and from $0 to $55 for those traveling from Diamond Creek to Pearce Ferry.
How to Submit Comments
The public can provide feedback on the proposed changes until January 30, 2025, through the following methods:
- Online: National Park Service Planning Website
- Mail:
Grand Canyon National Park
Attn: Administrative River Operations Program
PO Box 129

Reason for the Fee Increase
The National Park Service (NPS) last adjusted these fees in November 1998. The additional funds would help cover expenses related to:
- Protecting the Colorado River corridor
- Mitigating environmental impacts
- Monitoring recreational use and resources
Both non-commercial and commercial river users contribute to the costs associated with these efforts.
For more details on permits and private river trips, visit the Grand Canyon National Park website or contact the Backcountry Information Center at 928-638-7875. Phones are answered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except on federal holidays.
