Phoenix, AZ – In response to severe flooding in Havasupai, the Havasupai Tribe requested state assistance, prompting Governor Katie Hobbs to deploy critical resources, including UH-60 Blackhawk air support for evacuation efforts. Governor Hobbs issued the following statement:
“My heart is with all those impacted by the flooding in Havasupai, including Tribal members and visitors to the area. I am closely monitoring the situation, and we have deployed the Arizona National Guard to ensure the safety of those affected. The safety and security of Arizonans and all who visit our state is always my top priority, and I will continue working closely with leaders on the ground to protect the Havasupai community.”
There are no confirmed fatalities at this time. The State Emergency Operations Center has been activated at Level 2. The Department of Emergency and Military Affairs is coordinating with tribal, state, county, and federal agencies to support evacuation operations from Supai Village at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. National Guardsmen have been deployed this evening, with additional efforts planned for tomorrow to evacuate those who remain in the village.
