Governor Katie Hobbs Appoints Sandra Bensley to Pima County Superior Court

Bensley Brings Extensive Legal Experience and Community Ties to New Judicial Role

Phoenix, AZ – Governor Katie Hobbs announced today the appointment of Sandra Bensley to the Pima County Superior Court. Bensley, who was previously appointed as a court commissioner earlier this year, has an extensive background in probate, trusts, estate planning, and guardianship matters, alongside her experience in public defense and prosecution.

Bensley’s legal career spans over a decade in private practice, followed by nearly five years at the Pima County Public Defender’s Office and two years at the City of Glendale Prosecutor’s Office. She has also served in leadership roles on the State Bar of Arizona’s Board of Governors, the Arizona Women Lawyers Association, and was honored as a “40 Under 40” by the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 2019. Bensley is also fluent in Spanish, further enriching her ability to serve Arizona’s diverse communities.

“Sandra Bensley has deep roots in Southern Arizona, and her breadth of legal experience makes her well equipped for this important role,” said Governor Hobbs. “I am proud to appoint her to the Pima County Superior Court, where she will continue her exemplary service to the people of Arizona.”

Judge Bensley will fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Javier Chon-Lopez.
