PHOENIX – Governor Katie Hobbs today announced $700,000 in funding for local infrastructure projects in rural and Tribal communities across Arizona. The funding, provided through the Greater Arizona Development Authority (GADA), will help improve essential infrastructure, including libraries, roads, firehouses, and water systems.
“This funding will bring the Arizona Promise to life for communities across the state,” said Governor Katie Hobbs. “Investing in local infrastructure projects means strong communities, a healthy economy, and opportunity for people throughout Arizona who have too often been ignored and left behind.”
How the Funding Works
The technical assistance program provides up to $100,000 per project for engineering plans, feasibility studies, and architectural drawings—all of which support infrastructure development. Funds will be distributed as low-interest loans, which communities can repay using GADA’s financial assistance program.
Cities, towns, and Tribal governments can apply for assistance by March 15, 2025, at 5:00 PM.
Proven Impact of GADA Funding
Past infrastructure investments through GADA have made a significant impact across Arizona:
- $19.9 million funded a new library and recreation center in Cottonwood
- $3.6 million helped Williams build a justice center and upgrade its water infrastructure
- $58 million supported Lake Havasu’s wastewater expansion project
Leaders Highlight the Importance of Funding
Robin Romano, AFA Board President:
“We are encouraged by the interest in GADA financing and remain dedicated to providing enhanced resources for cities, towns, special districts, and tribal communities, ensuring they have the support needed to advance critical capital projects.”
Mila Besich, Mayor of the Town of Superior:
“As communities pursue major public projects, the design and engineering expenses can add up quickly. Technical assistance funds from GADA will make a difference in project timelines. Rural towns and cities are working to update aging infrastructure, and we’re grateful to Governor Hobbs and AFA for advancing projects that serve our residents through low-cost funding.”
Maria Dadgar, Executive Director of the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona:
“Access to capital and economic development resources remains a significant challenge for many Tribal communities in Arizona. The Greater Arizona Development Authority can serve as a crucial partner in supporting infrastructure projects that strengthen tribal economies and enhance community well-being.”
Mary Foote, Director of GADA:
“Capital infrastructure projects like safer roads, water systems, and new community spaces require extensive planning and resources. This program delivers the technical assistance rural and Tribal communities need to scale these projects from start to finish, bringing meaningful benefits to residents’ daily lives.”
GADA’s Ongoing Commitment to Arizona’s Growth
Since 1997, GADA has backed 84 projects statewide, issuing over $574 million in bonds. These investments have resulted in safer roads, upgraded emergency services, expanded water systems, and new public spaces that directly enhance the quality of life for Arizona residents.
