Governor Hobbs Launches “Know Your Rights” Website to Empower Arizonans

The new bilingual site provides clear guidance on constitutional rights, interactions with federal agents, and peaceful protest protections.

PHOENIX – Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has unveiled a new online resource designed to help residents better understand and exercise their constitutional rights. The website, knowyourrights.az.gov, offers practical information in both English and Spanish for Arizonans who may interact with federal law enforcement or take part in peaceful demonstrations.

Announced through a video address, the governor emphasized that the initiative comes at a time of “heightened tension,” when clear, accessible information is vital for public safety and civic engagement. The website provides step-by-step guidance for residents on what to do if approached by ICE agents at home, at work, or during travel, as well as specific resources for Tribal communities and those participating in protests.

Governor Hobbs said her administration’s goal is to ensure all Arizonans feel secure and informed, highlighting the importance of knowing one’s rights to help prevent potential abuses of power. “Now more than ever, it’s vital that we protect the rights found in our Constitution and make our voices heard through calm and peaceful protest,” she said in the announcement.

Arizona Department of Public Safety Director Jeff Glover echoed that message, underscoring the agency’s commitment to upholding citizens’ rights to peacefully protest and to seek legal counsel if stopped by law enforcement.

Community advocates also praised the initiative. Raquel Terán, Director of Proyecto Progreso, called the resource “a tool for empowerment,” noting that fear often clouds understanding during moments of political or social strain. She emphasized that providing this information in multiple languages helps families “respond calmly and confidently” when facing encounters with enforcement agencies.

The new “Know Your Rights” portal reflects a growing effort in Arizona to increase public awareness of civil liberties and ensure transparency in law enforcement interactions. The site aims to serve as both an educational resource and a safeguard for communities across the state.
