Government Shutdown Now Influencing Air Travel

With the government shutdown now in its fourth week, the Transportation Security Administration is experiencing staffing problems at airport check points.

Fortunately for Phoenix flyers, no impact has been seen at either Phoenix Sky Harbor or Phoenix-Mesa Gateway airports.

On Monday morning, wait times between 5 and 10 minutes were recorded at Sky Harbor and checkpoints also were operating as normal at Mesa Gateway.

If you’re scheduled to travel during the shutdown, be sure to leave some additional time to ensure making it through security at other airports, along with being patient for the employees working without pay.

Some of the airports that have seen delays resulting from the staffing problem include Miami International Airport, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport and George Bush International Airport in Houston.
