Katie Hobbs announced Friday her support for the expansion of the Transwestern Pipeline Desert Southwest Pipeline, calling the project a critical investment in Arizona’s long-term energy future.
According to the governor’s office, the expansion is designed to increase natural gas capacity across Arizona as population growth and business development continue driving higher energy demand statewide.
Hobbs said the state’s existing pipeline infrastructure is already operating at full capacity, making additional energy resources essential to maintaining reliability and affordability for residents and businesses.
The governor framed the proposal as part of Arizona’s broader “all-of-the-above” energy strategy, saying the project would help diversify the state’s energy supply while supporting continued economic expansion.
State officials also emphasized the potential economic impact tied to the infrastructure project, particularly for industries such as high-tech manufacturing, clean energy development and technology innovation.
In addition to expanding energy access, the pipeline project is expected to create hundreds of construction and infrastructure jobs with competitive pay and benefits, according to the announcement.
The Desert Southwest Pipeline expansion would extend eastward through neighboring states, with Hobbs noting she plans to work alongside officials in New Mexico and Texas as the project moves forward.
