Google Fiber Is Coming to Apache Junction — and It Could Change How Residents Connect

The East Valley city becomes the latest Phoenix-area community to land a deal with one of the country's most recognized internet providers.

Apache Junction is about to get a significant upgrade to its digital infrastructure. The city council voted this week to approve a licensing agreement with Google, paving the way for GFiber — the tech company’s high-speed internet service — to begin construction in the area later this year.

The deal makes Apache Junction one of the newer additions to Google Fiber’s growing footprint in the Phoenix metro, bringing a service long associated with major urban centers to a smaller, fast-growing East Valley community. Under the agreement, Google will be permitted to install the infrastructure necessary to deliver fiber-optic internet directly to homes and businesses throughout the city.

City leadership framed the partnership as part of a broader commitment to improving everyday life for residents. Apache Junction’s city manager pointed to reliable, high-speed internet as an essential utility in the modern era — no longer a luxury, but a baseline expectation for families, students, remote workers and local businesses alike.

The timing is notable. Apache Junction has been one of the faster-growing communities in the Phoenix region in recent years, attracting new residents drawn by lower housing costs and wide open spaces on the eastern edge of the Valley. Reliable broadband infrastructure is increasingly a deciding factor for families and employers evaluating where to put down roots — and the absence of competitive internet options has historically been a friction point for growth in smaller cities.

Construction is expected to get underway before the end of 2026, though a specific timeline for when service will be available to residents has not yet been announced.
